As our only lodge positioned directly on the edge of the tarn, it offers private access to the lake, an exceptional sense of seclusion and a wonderful connection to the surrounding landscape.

Just three miles from the historic village of Cartmel and within easy reach of Lake Windermere, Toad Mire is ideally placed for exploring the southern Lake District. Cartmel is renowned for its restaurants, traditional pubs, independent shops, medieval Priory and famous sticky toffee pudding, while the surrounding countryside offers beautiful walks and days out across the Lakes

Positioned right at the water’s edge, Toad Mire enjoys breathtaking views throughout the day and across the seasons. From the private decked terrace, guests can look across the tarn, where wildlife includes otters and visiting ospreys. A commissioned painting within the lodge was inspired by a guest’s photograph of an osprey, capturing the distinctive markings of this remarkable bird.

The private hot tub overlooking the lake is elevated on the decking, creating a wonderfully secluded place to relax beneath the Lake District skies. Woodland borders the lodge on either side, while spring brings carpets of wild garlic, bluebells, wood anemones and wild orchids, completing this very special lakeside retreat.
